ASRA is a community space centring Muslim women in sports, wellness and sisterhood.

ASRA is a community space centring Muslim women in sports, wellness and sisterhood. Founded in 2019, we have a running club with over 200 runners in the UK and members in Madrid, Paris and New York. ASRA’s aim is to unlock the inner athlete by nurturing a safe space and creating an environment to support spiritual, physical and mental health and wellbeing.

The sports and wellness industry have often caused Muslim women to be on the outside looking in. ASRA’s focus is on tackling the internal and external boundaries Muslim women face by acting as more than just a run club. We centre the community in everything we do, and community involvement was essential in the creation of ASRA itself, as we sought to explore the hurdles Muslim women tackle in exercise and sports.

The forefront of our mission is ensuring that no Muslim woman has to compromise on her Iman/faith to unlock her inner athlete to its full potential. Exercise is a sunnah - the Quran and hadith touch a lot on the importance of wellbeing and having a healthy diet/lifestyle and exercise is embedded in our daily routines as Muslims.

Our work outside of the running club is far-ranging. We deliver online programming, yoga sessions, and have a range of activities, creative and media related projects that expand our brand. With the intention of centring the validity of Muslim women’s existence in sports and wellness, ASRA acts as consultants to brands and companies. We aim to ensure the future of sports is more inclusive by providing research and community engagement. We also champion sisterhood, build safe space through the digital and physical community we have created, and challenge our own limitations with workshops and training sessions.

Our services are open to all Women, Muslims and non Muslims.
